High Selling Consignment Brings Record Price at 2011 Legacy Sale The 2011 Legacy Reining Breeders Sale once again attracted buyers from around the world, and in a testament to the popularity of the sale, a second day was added this year, offering over a hundred head of quality horses from outside consigners. Held October 15 & 16, the 2011 Legacy Sale finished with an overall average higher than the previous year, with the high selling horse garnered the highest selling price in Legacy Sale’s history. In the weeks leading up to the sale, buyers were able to review pedigrees, photos, and videos of the sale consigments via LegacySale.com. Many reining enthusiasts got to the sale a day or two early to look at horses and take part in the series of open houses and parties held Friday, October 14. Known for the many social events that surround the event, the Legacy Sale offered a morning bruch each day, an open bar, and lunch. Additionally, there was a gathering complete with pizza and drinks on Saturday night during the preview of the riding horses offered in the next days sale. Legacy Sale High Seller “I really liked his confirmation, and the fact that he is out of a good dam,” he commented after the sale. Madrigal, who said he mostly buys and sells horses for a living, is also a Certified Public Accountant. With addresses in both Laredo, TX and Whitesboro, TX, Madrigal has found success in purchasing horses from the Legacy Sale and then reselling them for a profit. As for Great Big Guns, he said plans for the colt include sending him to Hall of Fame trainer Tim McQuay to be trained up for the NRHA Futurity in 2013. For his part, McQuay was more than happy with the overall results of the Legacy Sale, and especially pleased about the consistently high bids commanded by offspring of his stallion. “The Gunners sold fabulous,” he noted. When asked about the high selling colt, McQuay said “I think just being out of a daughter of Great Red Pine that’s done something and produced quite a bit is one of the reasons he sold so well. And he’s just really classy looking. I loved him as a baby, and he just grew up and stayed the same.”
Additional High Selling Consignments Also sired by Gunner, the palomino colt’s dam, Cita Dun, earned $23,319 during her show career and has produced several NRHA money earners. Although Tim McQuay didn’t raise Ghost Gun, he was familiar with the colt’s dam, Cita Dun It, who is McQuay’s other legendary stallion, Hollywood Dun It. “She had a lot of feel to her, and a lot of things going for her. She’s a perfect cross for Gunner.” The high selling mare, Haidachino Cherry walked through the ring as lot #59. Consigned by McQuay Stables, Inc., she was purchased for $27,500 by Lorinaldo Gomes. Shown by Tim McQuay and Mandy McCutcheon, the mare was a standout during her show career, earning over $36,687. Sired by Haidas Magic and out of Miss Cherry Gin, she has since gone on to produce earners of over $99,000, including the 2007 NRHA Non Pro Futurity Champion, Haidachino Hollywood, and Dun Its Manhatten, an NRHA Open Futurity Finalist. Both of those performers are sired by Hollywood Dun It, and Haidachino Cherry sold bred to Hollywood Dun It.
2011 Legacy Consignment Sale The high seller, Jessolution, sold for $34,000 to buyer Leslie Woodgeard. Consigned by Pat St-Onge and Veronica Deans St-Onge of Texas, Jessolution is a 2009 palomino stallion sired by Einsteins Revolution, earner of $334,934. The colt’s dam, Miss Jessie Jac HYD has NRHA earnings of $4,033 and has produced earners of over $14,000. Trained by Pat, Jessolution was displaying a tremendous amount of physical ability in the maneuvers at sale time. Like many of the Legacy consignments, the colt garnered a lot of attention prior to the sale via the online video posted on LegacySale.com. After the sale, Veronica said the palomino colt had long been a favorite of hers. “We bought his dam when she was in foal with him. He’s a super nice horse,” she said, adding that the colt pretty much had all the goods needed for a top level futurity prospect. “He’s a big stopper, low headed, good mover….and he’s just really pretty with a lot of color.” There was a wide variety of mares consigned to the Sunday Legacy Sale, ranging from yearlings and broodmares to futurity prospects and finished show horses. Two mares commanded high bids, but did not attain reserve bids: Smartchicatthebar, a 2007 mare by Smart Chic Olena, was a pass out at $35,000, and Chics Red Un, a 2006 mare by Smart Chic Olena, was a pass out at $44,000. Ultimately, Guess Im A Gunner, a 2006 bay mare by Gunner and out of Dun It In Tinseltown, was the high selling mare on Sunday, bringing a final bid of $25,000. An NRHA money earner, Guess Im A Gunner was consigned by David Silva and purchased by Sam McCutcheon. The high selling gelding in the Sunday sale was purchased for $10,000. Consigned by Tom McCutcheon Reining Horses, Inc., Ima Major Vaquero was purchased by Sergio Elia. The 2008 sorrel gelding is by Major Vaquero and out of Miss Glenda Jac, and was paid up in the 2011 NRHA Futurity. With a successful 2011 sale in the history books, plans are already being made for the next Legacy Sale, which will be held on October 12 and 13, 2012!
